One of the latest spa crazes are chin chin fish. These tiny little fish will nibble away your dead skin cells during a pedicure. Should you offer this service at your spa? Read on.
Since some states are beginning to frown upon using razors during pedicures, some spas are looking for new ways to get ride of dead skin on the feet. Tiny carp, or chin chin fish can be used instead of the razor. Also called Doctor Fish, they were first used in Turkey and then in Asia before making a spash in the US.
Though your customers might be doubtful at first, most of them will be willing to try it at least once. It might be a great service to offer if no nearby spas have pedicure fish.
The fish pedicure doesn’t hurt, but might tickle a little. The hot water used during pedicures does not support any other plant life, so the fish learn to feed on what is available – dead skin. They don’t feed on the live skin because they can’t get to it since they don’t have any teeth.
Most states do not have any regulations for this relatively new treatment, but it’s always good to check with your state board before investing any money. If you want to go full force into fish pedicures, be prepared to spend a pretty penny. Some spas spend at least $40,000 getting their spa ready for this treatment.
